Answers to your questions
I'm sure that there are some questions that need answering no matter how trivial they seem and here
is where I'll do my very best to supply the additional information you seek. Any new relevant concerns
or information not covered elsewhere on the site will be added as I get the questions posed to me.
What size van do you use?
I use a Ford Transit SWB van. Maximum single solid cube load size is approx 2.4m (96") x 1.4m
(55") x 1.3m (52") in practice the volume is greater due to the body shape. The maximum
weight is approx 800Kg
Is there an extra cost for more than one package?
I can't pack my item, is that a problem?
Normally, no. As care is taken with every item I transport this need not normally be a problem as I
always carry blankets in which I can wrap things, and straps to secure the load. However, if your
item contains glass or is extra fragile, Iwould always reccommend that you do at least attempt to
pack it in some way, even if it's only bubble wrap.
Why is a courier service more expensive than Royal Mail or DHL?
As with the majority of couriers, CID Couriers prices are quoted based on the miles covered between
delivery and collection. This is quoted in Pence Per Mile. For any courier to operate effectively and
to remain profitable they must be able to cover their outgoing costs which can be very expensive. A
courier must have a van to use (ok a bit obvious), fuel, and insurances. On top of this there will be
consumables for the vehicle plus other expenses like stationary and utility bills and of course, some
normal living expenses, think of it this way, you don't go to work for nothing - neither does a courier.
All of the above are factored in when you get a quote.
What information do you need to deliver my goods?
To be able to give you a rough price I require either the postcode and/or towns of both the
collection and delivery addresses.
For carrying out the job, the very minimum needed are the full addresses of both the collection and
delivery points. A name and contact number for both addresses can also be very helpful.
Can I book in advance and if so do I have to pay now?
Yes, you can book in advance and no, you don't need to pay in advance. I do ask that if for any reason
you need to cancel or change any details of the job that you let me know as soon as possible.
Why does the online booking only submit an enquiry?
Because I manually work out each day's route. While it would be quite simple for the computer to
determine whether or not a vehicle is free or busy, it is almost impossible for the system to know
whether or not your job can be included for that day. There are simply far too many variables, and
also the fact the route/times may change during the day, to be considered that makes it almost
impossible for the website to take them all into account.
Example 1: The van is booked for a job from London to Glasgow on Monday
and returning empty to London on Tuesday. Your job from, say, Durham to Peterborough on Tuesday
would be en-route and the van would be available but the computer would see this as being unavailable
and say “no” to your enquiry when it could, in fact, be completed.
Example 2: As above but this time the computer knows the van is empty
and therefore, available. Your job is from Exeter to Dover, the system knows the van is empty and
says “Yes” to your enquiry - of course, there's no possibility of the van being in
Exeter or Dover as it's returning from the other end of the country.
I need to go with the package, can I have a lift?
Possibly. As I may go on to another job or return home via a different route I cannot guarantee that
I will be able to offer you a lift for the return journey and you should be prepared to make your
own arrangements to get back.
Do you issue tracking numbers?
No, there's really no need as there is only ever your goods in the vehicle, the load area of which is
locked, your goods never leave the vehicle en-route and the vehicle only travels between the collection
and delivery points. As a point of courtesy, I will telephone or text (your preference) you as soon
as your package has been delivered. You may also telephone at any time for information regarding the
geographical location of your items.
Is it possible for my goods to get lost?
Absolutely not. Your package, whether it's a single piece of paper or full load, will be delivered
in the same vehicle that collects it. Your package will be transported directly from the place of
collection to the delivery point and a proof of delivery (POD) signature will be obtained. This is
the fundamental difference between a parcel company / courier and a same day courier service.
What methods of payment do you accept?
Private customers: payment is accepted by cash or postal order on collection or
delivery or by bank transfer or Paypal in advance, a receipt will be issued. Credit
facilities are not available to individuals. A deposit may be required in certain circumstances.
Business customers: payment is accepted by cash, company cheque, BACS
or direct deposit into our bank account by the date shown on the invoice. New, one-off or
occasional business customers may be invoiced pro-forma. Credit facilities may be available upon
request and subject to approval.
I'm a business cutomer - can I open an account?
Quite possibly. In order to obtain a business credit account you need to complete and return a copy
of the Credit Account Application form. Please download an application form in MS Word format
here, complete the
details and send it back by post. You will be informed within 14 days whether or not you have been
accepted. Application does not guarantee acceptance.
Do I have to pay VAT?
Yes, CID Couriers is VAT registered and has to charge you VAT on the services provided. Any price quote
or estimate given to you includes VAT at the current rate. Your receipt (business customers will
receive a VAT invoice) shows you a breakdown of the amount of VAT charged.
Why do you only use a mobile number?
Quite simply, because I am away from my office for long periods of time it is the best method to
ensure that I am easy to contact. In the event that the number is unreachable for some reason, your
call may be diverted to a different number or voicemail service.
Are you REALLY available 24-7?
Yes, the telephone number is direct to my mobile which is with me all the time, day or night waiting
for your call or text. The fact I am available doesn't mean that I can or will work 24 hours a day.
The only time I may not be available is when in an area where the use of mobile phones is not permitted.
